How to aim the NTS (Nucleus tractus solitarius)?

A colleague and I have been trying to do retrograde tracing from the nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS), but it seems that the structure is not hold static since aiming the NTS based on Paxinos coordinates with a 600 um difference between two independent injections make no difference. It seems the medulla is pushed down somehow. Any suggestions?
