How the input power is normalized to 1 watt for determining the efficiency of thermophone??

I am studying the literature on thermoacoustic sound generation. The comparison of sound pressure level is being done at input power of 1 Watt. What are the parameters affecting the input power??? Because I can only change the input voltage using a function generator not the current. I am not getting how power is normalized to 1 watt. Can anyone tell me the exact voltage, current and area (of sample) parameter for 1watt input power
