Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism in humans. The normal concentration of uric acid in the serum adults is in the range of 3-7 mg/dl. In women, it is slightly lower (by about 1 mg) than in men.The possible protective action of many of the natural antioxidants that are found in biological fluids and tissues has been the subject of intense investigation. The effect of serum uric acid on aetiology of cancer may vary from one type of cancer to another; low serum uric acid may be associated with increased risk of lung and oral cancer for instance while high serum uric acid may be associated with increased risk of other types of cancer.
