I am not sure how to interpret the objective function results in SWAT-CUP. I have six observed variables (two streamflow sites, and four soil moisture sites) with R-squared results ranging from 0.58-0.68, but NS ranging from 0.55 to -29.58. Although I understand each function is a different assessment of model performance, I expected results to be more consistent. While these results suggest that the model performed poorly, I would like to understand it what issues these results might indicate. Do you have any suggested references, publications, and/or other resources that might help me better understand these results in the context of SWAT or hydrologic models in general? Thank you!
