Zeeshan - you are very busy asking questions on ResearchGate.

The answer to this depends on many factors - but usually individual university process and policy. In Westernised universities (and others), it is not up to the supervisor to decide the criteria for PhD candidature admission. It is an administrative process. Prior publication (and there are quality metrics that apply) will assist a candidature application. However, it depends on other factors as well - such as previous GPA as you have alluded to. Personally, I find that students who have previously published are more likely to have a higher GPA anyway.

I thank you for your answer in the first place, and appreciate it much.

I am currently working on research proposal independently. I hope being a student earlier and now professor and supervisor you understand it well that it is a stressful job to work independently, particularly when you want to apply for an independent PhD and qualify for it. To put it better, before sending an email to a potential supervisor I want to do the homework, rather than being one of those candidates who simply write to hundred of professors expecting their replies and are being rejected at the end. Primarily due to being unprofessional in writing a simple email and secondly having a poor proposal due to less knowledge of research and topic.

Since, RG is a platform mainly for researchers and I found it a great place where I can seek professors assistance who are already in supervisory positions.  

My questions are concerning my studies as your answers are related to your field of teaching (specialisation). Kindly make me understand, if asking research based questions on RG is a bad thing as you have pointed out "busy with asking questions on RG" then why not answering too much questions (as it makes one busy too) is bad as well?

I remember while studying one of my professor's said first thing as he entered in the class "questions are never be stupid but answers could be". I agreed with him.

I think it would be a great question to ask you: do you allow student to ask questions in the class? Or you rather do not appreciate students who spend too much time in asking questions? I would be glad to read about it. As I am curious, so I will be asking this question separately as well to everyone who wish to answer.

I consider ResearchGate as a class and seniors having more knowledge and experience than me my mentors and I respect them all. Most of them have helped me to clear many concepts and were very helpful. I would prefer to keep questioning about the concepts and seek help who wish to share knowledge voluntarily and learn.

Hope if you find my questions irrelevant, you will ignore them in the future.

I do not think publishing in indexed secure your admission in PhD. But publishing may make your road to PhD easy. Please approach the Professor of your research interest. You can also approach professor of your research interest through RG.

If I tell you frankly you do not need many publications to secure PhD admission. Your Master level dissertation is also sufficient. Please go through the detail procedure of PhD admission of concern department.

I prefer students who have published research for the purpose of supporting graduate admission requirements. As it helps in achieving a  correct starting point for students in the completion of scientific research for master's or doctorate degrees.

No publication in Pakistan. In 1985 I got DAAD Germany fellowship. My colleagues were getting 1500 Mark stipend, while I got 1000 Mark. When I asked DAAD authority, they asked me three publications or  PhD admission in Pakistani university. Peshawar University was kind enough and enrolled me as a PhD student.

Publishing at least two papers in any peer reviewed journal (either Scopus or ISI or impact factor) start to be a part of graduation requirement in addition to passing your PhD viva. It is not necessary to get your PhD just because of your publications, but it depends on the strength of your PhD thesis.Publishing an article is just a supporter as many reviewers check the contents of your paper before you are examined by professionals.

I believe the publication of at least two articles contribute effectively to secure an admission in PhD.

I think publishing two artcles in a peer-reviewed journal indexed can contribute to secure an admission in PhD.

I agree with Prof. Mahfuz Judeh. In my country (Iran) Just two articles in ISI list journals with suitable IF would be sufficient and can be accepted for admission in PhD degree.

In our country PhD students on our Faculty has several courses and need some skills to earned their ECTS scores, but for admission to PhD thesis they need two papers in Journals indexed only in WOS ( CC, SCI or SCIE)

I did make a similar comment in another of your posts and my response is pasted below. It is related. 

Many thanks for your comprehensive response. It is considered and makes sense. You are correct. Your questions are related. I did say that it's not always a bad thing - and that's the case with you after clarification. It's an overall observation of mine. It is not always the case. Some seem to ask a series of 'random' and unrelated questions seemingly 'for the sake of it'. Perhaps a word of advice to all out there. If I see lots of questions from an individual within a short time - it tends to put me off looking and answering - even though there may be a good question in amongst. If others feel like I do - then that could work counter to your strategy. I personally think that it's better for authors to ask single questions and wait until the feedback seems to be exhausted before moving onto the next related question. Then it acts like a 'springboard' from one question to another. I haven't asked a question for a long time - but when I did last post questions it was never a series of questions. That formula definitely worked for me. One question I asked a few years ago has around 400 answers and thousands of views and people still answer every now and then. That said, I have also posted a few questions that have received no responses. I think sometimes it is about the 'timing' of the posts.

From my point of view - I like answering questions where I can. I generally check RG most days and will usually respond to one or two questions. I doesn't take up too much of my time - and I like 'mentoring' and supporting. However, there are also often days when i don't answer questions because they are too 'random' or unrelated to my field - even if the keywords (topics) suggest that they are.

You ask another question in this question thread about if i encourage students to ask questions or not. My response to that is 'of course'. I don't think that i can do my job well nor students perform well is that is not encouraged. On the other hand, some students 'ask questions for the sake of it' and maybe for a specific answer. I personally discourage that. I always propose to students that I prefer measured, considered, , thoughtful, collected and balanced questions. If a student starts a question by saying 'this might sound stupid/silly' I generally find that they have reflected before asking it - and it often isn't. Then there are the students who think that their questions are 'clever' when they sometimes are not. Particularly, with my supervision student's I encourage 'deep thinking' If they ask me for a specific answer to something - i prefer to give them 'clues' so that they can do the required 'detective work' to gain knowledge. If it's a question that I don't know the answer to (and there are many) then that is my cue for me (and the student) do go off and do the same. 

It is depending on the University rule. In India, University Grant Commission (UGC) recently published the list of journals from each field including SCI, ESCI, and Scopus.

For sore publications has a positive effect during the universality

admission for PhD. As the supervisor/univ. wants a candidate who knows the basics of publication.

It is better for the candidate to have WoS paper (with IF), but if no peer-review paper could be fine.

GPA, publications, ect. are a crucial factors in scholarship application

I believe it depends on the specific institution. However, 3 articles to me is fine
