I am thinking about the synaptic release in acute slices. Will the terminals cut during slicing still functioning? How long can it last? If it is functioning, will it's spontaneous release change? Can we evoke release from these terminals? Please share your opinion and references to read. Thanks.

Yes.

Longer than the cell bodies will last.

Not really. mIPSC rates are roughly constant over hours.

Yes. This is extremely common. People make CA1 brain slices, and cut off CA3, and stimulate the Schaffer collaterals all the time.
