I performed multiple passes of stir friction machining of AZ31 magnesium alloy (average grain size 12μm) under different cooling media. The results show that the average grain size can only be refined to about 6 μm. Theoretically, just like copper alloys, FSP should be able to prepare ultra-fine grain magnesium alloys. It would be helpful to me if it could be explained.
