Localized and generalised aggressive periodotitis are common in: familial aggregation, the presence of minimal local deposits inconsistent with the degree of attachment loss, the rapid rate of attachement loss and the early age of onset; especially in the LAP. They appear in healthy individuals. GAP might be closely associated with certain genetic affections e.g., Chediak Hegashi syndrome, Papillon Le fevre syndrome, Downs syndrome
They are different in both the immunological profile & bacterial strains.
In the 1999 classification of periodontal disease according to Armitage); there's a special category of periodotitis that appears in persons who are systemically affected like diabetics, leukemics and so on. In that case, it is called periodotitis as a manifestation of systemic diseases as it is affected in its pathogenesis by the system condition, and improved by controlling the systemic condition.
Thanks. But certain authorities believe that oral hygiene is poor in GAP.And...... is the systemic component always in association with some syndrome? The aspect of a resolution following treatment of the systemic entity makes a great distinction though. Thanks!
