I am running into a constant problem of the Cadmium chloride precipitating out of solution if I try to make up a solution with dPBS or aCSF(due to the presence of divalent ions in these solutions). Can I use any other vehicle to dissolve the CdCl2 for neuronal treatment? I have tried making the stock solution with water and doing serial dilutions with aCSF/dPBS but that doesn't help either.
Sounds like you're getting cadmium phosphate crashing out of solution - pretty hard to avoid this in your PBS or aCSF as they are buffered with phosphate. Dissolving the CdCl2 in water should be fine (can filter sterilise it). I can only suggest you need to make your aCSF up with a different buffer salt eg HEPES (pH 7.4) instead of putting sodium phosphate in there. You may need to test this solution on your cells first, but my cancer lines don't mind a bit of HEPES in the media....
