The intra-arterial delivery route of stem cell administration is very attractive in stroke given the direct delivery of cells to injured brain and minimally invasive nature. However, there is no established method to extrapolate rat doses of intra-arterially administered cells to humans. One simplistic theoretical way is to use the brain circulation volume of the two species to extrapolate.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
You should also take into account different sizes of brain parts. I mean frontal cortex makes larger part of brain in human than in rat, so I guess it will get lager portion of stem cells than in rat but the density will be lower.

You will need to know the effective dose of your cells with respect to cc being treated. Then just divide the weight of the entire organ you are investigating in the animal model into the weight of the equivalent sized entire organ in the human and you have your multiplication factor. Although our studies have shown that the more stem cells the better. So I would suggest probably multiplying the multiplication factor by 10-100 times for an effective dose in humans.

Happy to help. I have been researching adult stem cells for 40+ years, with the last ten or so devoted towards clinical trial applications. My responses on ResearchGate have dealt with been there, done that, failed, retried, failed, retried, failed, retried, worked. Just trying to have you ovoid the pitfalls that I fell into. Trouble shooting is one thing, frustration is something else entirely.
Very interesting question and answers. But taking into account that the fate of implanted stem cells is to develop and multiply, is it so important to introduce the exactly same or analogous quantity of them,which has shown efficacy in rats? May be it is enough to be sure that thez dose is enough for some of the implanted cells will develop and to know that it may take some amount of time. That is not very "scientific", I agree, but it is easier and less dangerous, than to introduce into arterial flow a great amount of stem cells which may widespead through the whole organism and give growth somewhere to terratomas or other odd formations? There is also another point of view: is it necessary to inject into arterial system? is it not possible to implant directly into the nervous tissue of the injured brain area? this would allow to prevent further arterial embolization near the stroke area?Such propositions do exist.
