I have conducted experiments to study specific adsorption of chromium in various soils and I made my all solutions of cr with using 0.01M NaNO3 as background electrolyte. (I made solutions of 5 different ppm concentrations) So now for calibration of the AAS instrument should I prepare standards using only distilled water or my background solution( electrolyte).
Of course, the calibration solutions should contain the same concentrations of NaNO3, especially if you only have the option of using the FAAS technique with an acetylene-air flame. However, it would be best to use an acetylene-nitrous oxide flame, albeit with less sensitivity, but with much better resistance to matrix influences caused by differences in chemical composition between the sample solutions and the calibration solutions. Also, the speciation form of chromium should be the same in these solutions. Moreover, usually in this flame, the absorption background is vanishingly small and measurements can be made without its correction, e.g. without switching on the deuterium corrector, which usually worsens the detection limit of the measured element.
