Hi,
I am trying to model air flow through a pipe, that has a smaller pipe inside of it. I also have a heater in an impingement plate on the end of the pipe that the air should cool. How do I need to set up my boundaries and enclosure to do so in ANSYS Fluent.
When I set up the enclosure as seen in the images, the fluent model tries to simulate flow over all the structures, instead of just through the pipe.

Hi Monique,
Maybe you need to modify your geometry and only keep the pipe and the heater since you are interested in the flow in the pipe. You need to create a surface at pipe inlet and specify inlet boundary condition there. I am also curious what is your current inlet boundary because I could misunderstand what you are trying to simulate. Why do you include that box?

I totally agree with @Zhao. If I have understood your problem statement correctly, I feel that since you want to cool the plate entirely, you have considered the pipe and plate to be inside a chamber. So that you could also study the the circulation of the air after striking the plate. Is it so?
Furthermore, from the attached images, the pipes seems to be hollow and concentric. Does the air flow through the annular gap as well?

I wanted to model the system in the box so I can later set the back side of the plate so there is natural convection over it.
Right now I have the inlet flow going through the large pipe, it exits through the annular end. I have removed the plate and enclosure and the simulation works. As soon as I add the plate in, fluent no longer likes the mesh. I still haven't added the enclosure. Any ideas on how to fix this?
