I am doing the CFD numerical modelling of the vegetated open channel in Ansys fluent. Actual geometry is 8m channel, where vegetation is placed in 4 m length. My questions are
1. I want to reduce the whole geometry to 1.5 m, with 1 m vegetation length to reduce computational time. How can i provide periodic boundary conditions at inlet and outlet so that model and experimental results will remain same. .
2. can symmetry in design modular is used for the same purpose ?

First of all, you should make sure that inlet and outlet has same number of nodes (if not, create co-ordinates {from Co-ordinate systems in Project tree} at inlet and outlet, then using MATCH CONTROL match them both).
1. If you save them as periodic_inlet and periodic_outlet in ANSYS meshing, then they directly create periodic boundary in fluent (no need of console).
2. If you save them in different names!
Then in fluent using TUI commands, mesh > modify zones > make periodic > enter Inlet and oulet ID's > select Rotational or Translational > Enter
