I am trying to induce type-2 diabetes in Balb-c mice by i.p. injection of 150mg/kg alloxan following 18 hours of fasting. I injected alloxan 3 times a week for one week and now all the mice are diabetic. However, even in the resting stage, in which I just check their fasting blood glucose levels periodically without any Alloxan injection, there is high rate of mortality, about 30%. The mice are also losing weight constantly. What can I do to prevent the weight loss and minimize the mortality?
You can use low dose of alloxan or streptozotocin with high fat diet or high-sucrose-high fat diet. you may be inducing type1 with such a high dose. You also have to consider the sex and@ age of the animal
Reduce doses and consider administration time and HFD.
