I synthesized a silica-functionalized graphene through esterification. I found an ester peak(~1735 cm-1) in the functionalized GO, however, I also found the same peak in the original GO.
Then, how can I distinguish ester bond from COOH group?
If functionalized GO has an ester peak and has a similar peak of silica, then, is it synthesized correctly?
I want to know the method to determine whether the esterification is successful or not.

In the FTIR spectrum for the carboxyl functional group, two peaks are observed, one broad peak corresponding to the hydroxyl group and the other peak corresponding to the carbonyl group. But in the ester functional group, the broad peak of the hydroxyl group is eliminated and the carbonyl group peak shifts to a higher wavenumber.

the position of C=O signal depends on its substituent groups. So we have 1680 cm-1 - 1725 cm-1 for carboxylic acids and 1725 cm-1 - 1750 cm-1 for esters. In the attached picture the overlay b/w stearic acid and cetyl stearyl stearate is shown. As Mahdi observed the -OH signal present at around 3300 - 3400 cm-1 in stearic acid disappears in esters (but sometime water /moisture can affect the quality of the spectrum in this area and the interpretation can be difficult).

Can you provide us with additional details concerning the proposed product (or the educts) of your reaction.
I assume you have a GO-COOH and use a silane to modify the surface. You cannot monitor a GO-COOSiR3.
