The fastest way is to establish cell derived tumor by injecting breast cancer cell line such as 231 cells. You can inject either subcutaneously or orthotopically in the mammary gland.
You also can generate Patient derived xenografts (PDX) or use the murine breast cancer model MMTV-PYMT. However the last two are time consuming.
One of the most simplest and inexpensive models is 4T1 (mouse triple-negative breast cancer cells) in Balb-c mice, that mimicks metastatic and very aggressive human triple-negative breast cancer. Disadvantage is that it is mouse model and some targets could be different compared to those found in humans. Another model could be MDA-MB231 human triple negative breast cancer cells in nude mouse, especially when you inject cells into the mammary fat pad, but this model is much more expensive.
Hi Ibrahim, the estimated time for breast cancer formation is variable, depending on the models. Genetic mouse model can address the role of your interest gene or pathway in the development of breast cancer. Chemical induction model only can lead to the formation of breast cancer, without telling the clear answer of the function of gene or pathway. Precision medicine needs to target the specific gene or pathway. Therefore, genetic mouse models have been used widely. You may read these two reviews (PMID: 26834104, 28381598). Thanks.
