I want to detect the chemical composition, especially the elemental composition of petroleum jelly for further biomedical applications. How can I prepare the sample for testing using the Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy technique? and what will be the conditions of analysis?
I analyzed samples before using SEM-EDX unit. However, the type of sample is different from the jelly and I need only to determine its elemental content. I guess an EDX instrument will be beneficial in that, but I don't know the technique of analysis and the sample preparation steps.

Artur is right; your sample is not suited for vacuum.
So XRF is the better choice.
However it has its limitations when no vacuum is used due to the low energy fluorescence of low atomic number constituents.

Hi Amir mohammed, would you please tell me if you have analyzed the petroleum jelly structure? I want to know the functional groups of this material. does it have any aromatic hydrocarbons? I have read in many articles that it doesnt have aromatic rings but in some other articles it contains aromatic rings with the CnHnN formula. I want to know the correct structure and whats the difference between them. thank you very much.
