We have recently observed that a transmitted hypermethylation of a gene was correlated to a single nucleotide variant in the proximal promoter region, and thereby to a decreased expression of the gene. I figured that it could be due to a modification of a specific target sequence recognized by some methylase or protein complex, but I didn't find anything in the literature that could help me to validate this hypothesis or to switch to another one. If you have any idea about this phenomenon or if you know any bioinformatic tool likely which would allow me to explore this track, please feel free to post a comment.
