I am confused regarding the status of HBL 100. Some mention it as 'normal' cell line while others state that it is 'normal like' and another is it is 'transformed'. A clear and precise discussion is invited (possibily with some literature backup)

I did a few background checks on this cell-line. I found that a Robert Kiss in his previous answer in Research Gate has mentioned HBL-100 to be 'a breast transformed but "non-tumorogenic" cell line' . As far as I have read, It is 'normal' in terms of being isolated from a normal and healthy 27 year old woman. She did not show any signs of breast cancer in the subsequent years besides the fact that the cells isolated from her breast tissue (after 3 days of parturition) showed malignant transformation. You should also know that it was found to be tumorigenic after the 103 passage level in nude mice. So technically, it was found that the breast epithelial cell isolated from a normal healthy woman was found to be transformed towards malignancy. This type of spontaneous immortalization of human cells is a very rare event.
P.S I could find an article, but might be really outdated. So, please do recheck any facts given in it. I also found that several research publications do not accept HBL-100 as a credible cell line for research. ATCC had discontinued selling HBL-100, probably for the same reason.

This line 'Normal' because The epithelial cell line HBL-100 has been derived by E.V. Gaffney and associates from the milk of a nursing mother and obtained 3 days after delivery. Although there was no evidence of a breast lesion in the milk donor, and the patient had no family history of breast cancer .
This line was able to synthesize a small amount of lactose and would respond to prolactin or estrogen by producing increased amounts of casein. Electron micrographs revealed microvilli, tonofibrils and desmosomes.
