We would like to reduce the usage of Fetal bovine serum (FBS) in some cell lines in our lab both to reduce the cost and the suffering of the animals. So, instead of using the standard 10%, we would like to use 5% or somewhere in between. We might do a small comparison study using different percentages of FBS and check viability, doubling time/ proliferation, and maybe some common markers. But worried the effects might be more than that. So, I was wondering if anyone has tried 5% FBS before, what effects have you noticed? What is your opinion about it?
