In early 2012, Trastuzumab (Herceptin) was introduced to the market as a Subcutaneous injection as a replacement to the conventional IV route. have Have you ever experienced or reported any adverse events with Subcut Trastuzumab? since it's given as 5 mL subcut injection over 3 - 5min in one site?

I patient with breast cancer had the drug as adjuvant treatment and had a clear decline in heart function. The oncologist in charge was eluctant to stop the planned further adjuvant treatment. Seemingly the oncologist did not feel a contraindication in proven deterioration in heart failure with eccocardiography.

In my practice, nothing special, comparing to the trastuzumab given intravenously. Patients prefer this route of administration.

Dear Abdulqadir, they like it. You know, most of patients do not like to spend time together wit other patients during the treatment period, because they are bothered by different horror, succes, alternative therapy etc. stories heard from each other. Sc. trastuzumab is a very short procedure, so they prefer it. I have never heard any complaint from my patients about that administration route or any request to replace sc. trastuzumab with the iv. form. And because the dose is the same for everybody, and you do not have to put it into any infusion, using sc form of trastuzumab spares lots of nurse and pharmacist time (no dose determination, no dilution, no sucking out the excess from the ampoule, etc...).
