I would like to wash and reuse the (quite pricey) ULA plates for secondary (less important) experiments
I tried 2x water and 2x 70% Ethanol - this doesn't seem to hurt the coating, as spheres for nicely and the wells that were formerly empty, the well which previously contained spheres already however seem somehow messed up - spheres don't form properly in those, yet they don't attach to the walls either
Any idea if I could try anything else? SDS, protK,...?

Emanuel, an alternative to buying ULA plates is to coat regular plates with agarose. I make 1% agarose in water and sterilize it by autoclaving. Before using it, I heat it in a microwave, cool until I can touch the bottle, and then pipet ~ 5-8 ml into a 10 cm plate, make sure that all surface is covered and aspirate the agarose with the same pipet and cover the plate with the lid. What is left on the plate makes a nice coat that solidifies within a few minutes. I then add 5 ml of medium to the plate and let it equilibrate in the incubator for an hour before plating cells.

I do not know the exact material composition of those corning plates, however there are specialized cleaning agents for thos glasses (and also for other materials). We made quite good experience with "Tickopur" products, see

- for example the RW77 is well suited for plastic materials and glass as well. If you then use ethanol and triply destilled water uinder ultrasonification, you end up with a well defined state of the glass.

In our undergraduate training lab we normally wash plates for non-sterile assays. The method used is:
Soak plate in soapy water for 1 hour.
Rinse extensively with tap water.
Soak in 0.5 % sodium hypochlorite for 1 hour.
Rinse with tap water.
Final rinse with RO water.
The above is done in a lab sink.

we tried this - it worked pretty well, we need to do the experiments in 384 well plates though and coating all those would be quite a pain - especially since the robot doesn't seem to like pipetting agarose too much
Hi, I use ULA plates for the primary culture of macrophages derived from peripheral blood monocytes. Do you know if the treatment with that aggrewell rinsing solution could inhibit the adherence of monocytes?
