You may be seeing a behavior called barbering. That's when dominant animals chew the fur off their cagemates, often in a similar pattern. If all the mice in a cage, except one, have a weird patch of fur missing, that's barbering. However, some groups of mice have more than one barberer, and some animals will self-barber.
Adding nestlet/nesting material or autoclaved paper towels can help allviate this abnormal behavior, though it's better for the animals' welfare to always/preventativly give them something to build a nest with.
