Are DNA cleavage and religation the "dual effects" that you mention, Kandaswami? Thanks for the suggestion but we have yet to try with bathocuproin salts because our current experiment was carried out to evaluate the efficiency of a [Cu(phen)L] complex as artificial nuclease in the absence of exogenous agent. The 5,5’-dimethyl-2,2’-bipyridine and 2,2’-bipyridine derivatives that we tested do not show any DNA cleavage.
