I got a mold in sterile milli Q water. It has white in color. I am curious, what it could be and how it can grow in conditions without anything with just a pure water supply.
Water is the best medium for growth of Fungi. Apart at times spores of Mucor and Rhizopus are easily found in water and fungi being robust in nature can easily grow and survive
Its difficult to grow fungi on water only, they can grow on water for very short period and then they must be transferred to a suitable medium rich with carbohydrates.
Some fungi such as Pythium spp. (Oomycetes) can be grown on water culture for a short time, when the mycelium has been seen, it transferred to PDA medium and incubated in incubator on about 25 C to allow growing well.
