My research group wants to freeze down some of our first passage of primary dermal fibroblasts incase we need to re-seed them at some point. Is it appropriate to store in complete growth media that contains 10%DMSO and 30%FBS for the long term? (2-6 months)

Once a cell confluency of 70-80% is reached, the primary fibroblasts can be frozen. You may either use growth media containing 10% DMSO and 30% FBS or a medium consisting of 70% growth medium, 20% FBS and 10% DMSO with good effect. Usually, mammalian cells are best stored in the vapor phase of liquid nitrogen that can reach temperature between -140°C and -180°C. Although -80°C is another common temperature to store mammalian cells, the cells tend to lose viability within months of storage.
As you mentioned that your storage period would be around 2-6 months, you may take that chance. But if you have the facility for liquid nitrogen storage, I recommend that you should store the primary fibroblast cells in liquid nitrogen.
