With reference to the currently researched areas of chemical oxidation processes, what are financial prospects of these methods when the concerned wastewater has low strength and high volumes? Insights regarding in plant experiences are most welcome. Specifically, if we use hydrogen peroxide based methods such as Fenton's process, what are its implications?
The treatment of low strength waste water with H2O2 is relatively high operation costs for “catalysed” H2O2 treatments but Very versatile and environmentally compatible oxidizing agent.The extent of overestimation is proportional to the remaining hydrogen peroxide concentration and the average overestimation ratio in livestock wastewater was in the range of 0.50~0.58 mg per 1 mg of hydrogen peroxide, depending upon the quality of the wastewater treated. True chemical oxygen demand values were estimated by correlating the extent of overestimation with the remaining hydrogen peroxide concentration during treatment. It was found that H 2 O 2 pretreatment was economically viable. Incomplete oxidation of an ethoxylate surfactant increased foaming tendency and foam stability; however, extended oxidation (>90 minutes) destroyed the foam. Costs depend on the specifics of the requirement (e.g. H2O2 strength and grade, volume per year, packaging and delivery volumes, and location/proximity to production plant, etc.). For large amounts of technical grade 30% H2O2, the price is roughly a few dollars per kg
