I have found from immunohistolchemical (IHC-P) staining of claudins in the brain tissue, that not just endothelial cells of capillaries, but some other cells are expressing claudins as well. What kind of cells can they be? Do they affect the permeability of blood-brain-barrier as well?
I would think cells infiltrated from the periphery. We recently noticed that PBMCs express claudin-1 and other TJ proteins.

thx for ur replies!! I have found claudin-5 expressed in some cells in the brain tissues, which do not seem to be endothelial cells as they would around capillaries. claudin 25, 26 brain, not determinated function, claudin 11 oligodendrocytes cation barrier, caludin 19 schwann cells cation barrier, 3, 12, 5 blood-brain barrier Cation barrier and anion channel (3,12 not determinated function).
For cells to infiltrate from the periphery to the brain, there should be a remarkable disruption of BBB. I did notice an expression (increased) of claudin-5 in some cells in the cortex. I started to doubt it might be a specific problem due to the antibody itself... Or I should perform a double staining.
