The basis of RG score always does not Suggests the scientific acumen. Lot of people I noticed increase their RG score putting relatively unrelated questions like boiled egg or omlet, which is better in morning breakfast. May be that person never associated with any research or will do research in Food Science and Nutrition. In India API score has more scientific orientation.

In Iraq, the process of assessing the performance of university professors is determined by many factors, including the granting of a high evaluation for research published in journals subject to the classification of Scopus and Thomson Reuters, and an average assessment for other areas of publication. RG  does not include this specification, especially with respect to undocumented publishing and questions and answers of a simple level does not balance with the level of university professors and so on.

I think that RG is enough to be a link between colleagues from different countries of the world to exchange views and scientific communications, and this is sufficient for the objective created for RG

RG score does mean ONLY THE POPULARITY of a researcher or person on Research Gate.....it is purely based on number of followers, number of questions asked and number of answers provided to various questions and number of recommendations received by a person...it doesn't indicate reputation of a person that is commonly based on the quality of research articles published in quality journals (high impact factor)....  perhaps h-index (it takes into consideration the number of research articles and number of citations) could be considered more valuable than RG score...

RG offers a great platform for spotlighting the researcher and his/her works. Indeed, the active participation in intellectual academic discussions is recognized and praised by other researchers within one's university and those in other countries. Generally the academic values are set as per the decisions of the administrators. In most of the cases, they are aged. So it is not expected from them to include RG as an indicator of efficiency.

In Jordan, RG, Scopus and Google Scholar are used to give some ideas on the researchers.

Our university recognizes only very well known metrics such as H-index (given by ISI/WoS or Scopus( and (to a lesser extend) G-score of Google Scholar.

RG score has no place in identifying the scientific acumen of an individual. RG score can be easily manipulated and inflated.

The real reputation of a scientist can be easily looked at the google scholar.

The advantage of the RG is that you could download scientific papers. Some scientists would like to interact occasionally. Others are too busy to get too personal - multitasking, multiple projects, and juggle many balls so to speak. They may not have time for anything.

Many people with very high RG scores reflect what I mentioned here - inflated their scores. That all.

Although many would ask or answer the questions, only handful of those responses will be really useful to you. Others, as I mentioned, ask or answers; just because they want to inflate the score.

how can you identify such people?

a. Very high RG score; and very low h index (the h-index you see in RG vs Google scholar might vary)

b. Mostly one line answers. First answer is not always the best answer. Not all highly upvoted answers are the best.

c. Ask all sorts of meaningless or cryptic questions - what is the meaning of life? Have you ever had an encounter with the God? How might a hell looks like? Was it an egg or a chicken? Seem absurd right? You will be surprised, many people would answer it.

d. submit many answers in the same discussion again and again; try to agree with many people. This way, their answers get upvoted.

e. hit the answers first - this technique would give many upvotes - even if it doesn't make any sense at all. Some will make sense out of it.

f. Despite their qualification and background experience; they would answer anything and everything by searing 'google' for answers. This would range from paleoarcheology to exobiology and biotechnology to nanotechnology.

g. if something that cannot be persuasively argued, they would post a quotation from a famous people.

Oops! now you know how to inflate your scores, if you don't have a high h-index!

Dear Raid, the RG platform was recommended by our University. And we all start to upload our paper. Then they change their mind and said the system Iknow is better and that we should upload our papers there. However, many like me likes the RG platform. I think that those who are not included in RG thinks that having highest score means that you have higher scientific value.

For my case, my employer is MoST, nothing to do with academia, it deals with research and development. I joined RG by invitation from a friend. He called me for a challenge, so I accept his challenge. I gained a lot of knowledge and experience from it. I made a lot of friends there.

It has no value, but to some extent, it is an indirect index for researches comparisons.
