I'm wondering if lysozyme could also affect nucleases like RNase.
My understanding is that lysozyme hydrolyses glycosidic bonds in bacterial cell walls, specifically between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine in peptidoglycans. Now I'm curious if this enzymatic action could extend to glycoproteins such as RNase and DNase! Do you have any insights or know of any research that could help me? Thank you very much!
While I am not aware of any way lysozyme could digest D/RNAses, it can bind to nucleic acids so D/RNAse inhibition by lysozyme would not be unheard of
I would imagine that in most cases lysozyme will not affect nucleases. Most RNases and DNases are not glycoproteins, certainly not in bacteria. But to your broader question as to whether lysozyme can inhibit glycoproteins, I not never heard of that happening. I believe the glycosidic bond is quite different but others on here are likely more expert at this than I am.
