I am trying to define mesh type and size based on physics associated with my problem. However, whenever I use 'user defined mesh' to refine mesh at important boundaries/domains, the mesh quality is always below 0.1 (very poor). I wanted to know if COMSOL supports meshing softwares like GAMBIT, GridGen etc.?

Alternatively, try spending some more time with COMSOL MP's meshing options. There are several ways to optimize your mesh, so perhaps you just need to familiarize yourself with them.
U can use hypermesh for meshing (free student's licensse is available on Altair site) and export file in COMSOL compatible format . I have used many tools but hypermesh seems to be the best package for the mesh generation and files are compatible with most of the solvers. I have a good experience in hypermesh.
