I am currently using an antibody (Mab) from Abnova, it is NOT a clean antibody and I am picking up many bands using human tissue lysates on pre-cast gels. I have tried blocking in (3 and 5%) BSA and 5% Skim milk, this hasn't really made a difference to the blot. I am thinking of buying a different antibody and wondered if there were any suggestions of companies etc. for a good anti-AREG Western blotting antibody.

The predicted molecular weight of the precursor is ~28 kDa, and the protein will undergo significant post-translational processing due to the presence of Lys-Arg-rich regions in the N-terminal domain, which are recognized by proteases. It is reasonable to expect several species on a western blot ranging from ~15-25 kDa. A similar pattern is observed for the closely related molecule, HB-EGF. The only way to verify specificity definitively would be with RNAi-mediated silencing of AREG.
