Does anyone know if cross-linking of chitosan nanofibers will be necessary for cell culture application?

It seems like without cross-linking the chitosan nanofibers would dissolve in water which consequently leads to death of cells .

It seems to be necessary to use a cross linker like genipin to improve stability of chitosan nanofibers in aquas solutions.
