To analyze reaction times in a study, I am fitting a generalized linear mixed model to my data considering a gamma distribution and an inverse link function. As most of the studies, I also added gender and age of the subjects as the covariates of the model. However, I realized that adding them to the model simply increases the AIC or BIC of the model which indicates poorer fit of the model to the data. I was wondering what I should do in this situation? simply exclude them from the model? Does excluding gender and age from the model affect generalization of the results to the population?
