Hi Andrea, I need detailed temperature distribution in the vicinity of a lava tube to get a temperature profile across it. Analysing characteristics of this temperature profile I can predict dimentions of the tube and discharge rate.

ok; let me look if we have good data for past eruptions; otherwise, we can try to get it for the next one....in the next days.......

Sounds great, Andrea, What kind of resolution in space can you get? How accurate are the temperature measurements?

Hi Oleg both will depend on distance from the target and occurrence of for instance water vapour in between the target and the instrument; looking at the data, I have a set of data close to a skylight of october 2010; an independent calibration using thermocouple can be envisaged; as the ongoing inflation rate and total amount of the volcano is high, we can expect an eruption long lasting enough to form lava tube; I'll keep you informed, but I can prepare a specific series of measurements for that; Staudacher did something similar in the past (1998) to identify hidden lava tubes.

Thanks, Gerald. It looks like than satellite data has low resolution for lava tube detection. So ground based observations are necessary.

Hi Andrea, my method will not work for open channel without significant modification. we are also working on the lava flow simulations but the code is not ready yet for non-isothermal flows. I have a google drive folder that I am happy to share. 

ok; than in that case we have to wait and hope that the now open channel becomes a tunnel soon.....I'll keep you informed if I can catch it.

I hope that at the end of the year we'll have a code for a channel flow with a cooling surface. Then this data will be of great help to us in order to tune the model.
