What surface modification procedures can be employed to enhance the interfacial bonding between the resin matrix and filler particles in dental composites?
Dear Gürkan Gürgez, the first option is to do filler surface treatment with an agent that shows high affinity to the matrix. This way is restricted by the biocompatibility of agent used, so the window of possible choices may be very limited. The other option is to use a resin (matrix) that was synthesized in situ with the presence of the filler, here no additional work is supplied, since during polymerization, some chains are formed from the inside of the filler particles going outside to meet the continuous matrix with total compatibility, i. e , almost no neet interface is formed.
