I plan to perform brain slice cultures from different aged quail (embryonic right up to adulthood) and was wondering if anyone knows of a method, ideally for quail or similar species.
JOVE has several video protocols for this type of experiment. For example: http://166.78.179.190/video/2527/preparation-and-culture-of-chicken-auditory-brainstem-slices which is a protocol to culture chicken brainstem but the procedure should be very similar with quail brains.
Hi. Thanks for that. I've seen that vid before but I can't access it from my uni for some reason! I'm basing my method on zebra finch and chick slice culture models. The trouble is finding protocols with adult tissue.
Old articles are those of Herms Romijn, the inventor of the chemically defined culture medium. What I know is the older the brain slice the earlier degeneration in it.
