We are growing up primary cells from human lung tissue digests. We have seen a reasonable amount of fungal growth in these cells that a clinical microbiologist tells us is likely from the tissue itself (and not from poor sterile technique). Does anyone know of a good anti-fungal that we can include that will kill the yeast. We do use an antibiotic/antimycotic, but that is not enough.

We have some experience with primary cells over here. We use to put in the down part of the CO2 incubator a solution of CuSO4 1%, that is anti fungal. In the media you can add Fungizone.

Thanks Andréa. I will try the CuSO4 1% in the water pan. I did try a low level of the Funizone that is part of an antibiotic (pen+strep)/antimycotic. Bugs were still growing; I will try adding some more Fungizone and gent too.

Thanks All. We increased our antimycotic concentration and added gentamycin to the culture for initial culture. We also added some antimycotic to the water pan in the bottom. Knock on wood no contamination!
