I need to use the microtome for Techovit thin slices. Is really necessary to buy a new knife holder? Does it worth it?
I have a microtome Leica RM2145. Knife holder is quite expensive and companies do not provide pictures of it. I am wondering if is there any diference between the original ones.
Just need to know if anybody has done this before in a microtome and if it worth the try.
I used blades glass for plastic resin section on the ultha-microtome.
I used to do that in my previous lab but now they only have a microtome. And i don't have options to use ultramicrotome
You don't have to buy ultramicrotome,you need only a new knife holder and use it in your microtome. I have been working with methacrylate blocks only on ordinary microtome about 20 years and use only glass knives. But I make them with the knife-maker.Do you have such equipment in your lab?

I am very happy that I found somebody that use a microtome for plastic resin. Actually we do not have the knife-maker here but I called Leica and they told me that a high profile blade migth work for technovit. In this case it wont be even necessary to buy another knife holder. Have you ever tried that? Or you use only glass knives for metacrylate?

Two years ago I checked an information about working with a high profile blade(on plastic blocks) in several labs because we were going to buy a new microtome and got very good feedback about it.Because of this information i know that some people are satisfied of it.We decided to buy the microtome with holder for glass knives(we have a knife maker) and I continue to work with them.
