Following DNA damage and senescence induction it can take up to 7 days (Coppe et al, 2008) for the SASP to fully develop. Since it has been suggested (Burton et al 2010) and evidence provided (Liu et al, 2013) that the SASP may play a role in senescence mediated calcification, we may not be giving enough time for the calcificatory phenotype to develop.
