Fake information, fake profile, fake certificate, morphed photographs, fake awards, fake honors, all are ingredients of a virtual / web-life! one has to accord adequate caution and not to get carried away with the "too good to be true" events / personalities / informations / miracles you come across on the net!

No, I don't believe it is fake. However I do believe that it is biased, catered, coddled, and aggrandized. It is what you want to portray, what you care to keep as memory, what you want others to know, but most of the time it is the life of the person, just dramatized towards specific wants, needs, and personalities. As for the shared posts? Lots of that can be lies. Nothing is more annoying than someone who lies to get something they want and even abused people in the process and that is not just virtual happenings. Sometimes people really do that. They believe in what they are doing and that is what makes it "truth" even if their reasoning is not honest.

Before we believe / accept certain information, we need to go through a process to rationalize our decision - just like applying the scientific research process that some of us had gone through i.e. from observing the information, posing questions, conducting investigation (including collecting & analyzing the evidence) & make your own intelligent conclusion. This rationalized approach can help us believe / accept the right information with minimal risk. This process not only applicable to research & Facebook but also applicable to other scenarios like falsify phishing emails, protecting our digital assets, finding solution addressing a problem etc.

Not sure about the ratio of the fake information, but it is true that many more information is fake shared on Facebook by fake users.
I totally agree with Shahnaz... One should be careful and look at the source of the information.
Majority people using Facebook are not so mature as they ought to be.
Data processed become information.
Information, overtime becomes knowledge.
Knowledge preclude believe.
To believe or not to believe that certain percentage of information on FB depends on facts.

This brings the vivacity and the excesses of youth to the platform. This also adds to the sense of irresistible humour that makes me go there for the fun. Sometimes just to laugh...

I agree with you, Prof. Mitra. In Facebook, most names are fictitious; birthdays are forged; some pictures are dubious and some profiles are exaggerated.
However, among the remaining 11% of Facebook users, you can learn from the thoughts that they express and the information that they share.
Facebook is a very good friendship-making e-site with varieties of human beings and things, including art, fiction, comments, discussions and real stories also. There, fictitious things will be there, no doubt. But, we have a choice to accept and eliminate them easily.
A gossip in 'facebook' is good for entertainment and intellectual development at the same time.
If the estimate of 89% is correct, then we can be very happy that 11% is from people who WILL NOT LIE. FB doesn't require that we supply all details, and we should be careful about the things that we share on social media. I do happen to know many friends who are basically honest, who do not even wish to tell lies, and do not bother much with self-promotion, but just use FB to share with close friends, good friends who would know immediately if I tell a lie.
This pic was what I watched, and then shared on FB, about a cancer victim. Social media is what each of us MAKES IT TO BE FOR GOOD or bad. FB is great for such sharing. Thanks.
