I have been walking more, and using the car less. But I see the heads of several nations have been flying around, and I wonder are all the trips really necessary. Or are the positions and privileges used for having more fun at tax payers' expense? Here, you see us at our annual tree planting activity at college.
Our relationship with nature and the environment requires daily work, much more efforts. Let us celebrate the World Environment day by our doings. Let us respect our environment.
it has been a long time that I have stopped killing any kind of living beings. When I do not want some around me I try to take from the area the food and other conditions that attract those organisms,
I hope one day I will see prohibition to light trees on Christmas time.
I definitely could celebrate it if everyone could live together in peace and harmony respect each other's religious beliefs and the right to express that faith without fear even those who say they have no faith. Equality of education wealth and greater research into non carbon based energies. Walking more cycling more and enjoying the beauty and splendour of nature and celebrate the wonderful planet we are privledged to live on.
A good one, I read...If you’re travelling on the Barcelona Bus Turístic, we invite you to collaborate by putting your audioguide headphones in the recycling bins on board. The Fundació Rubricatus, a special centre for people with disabilities, relabels and repackages the headphones.
According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted. At the same time, 1 in every 7 people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily due to hunger.
That is why this WED ‘s theme is to encourage:
Reduction of food wastage, which, in turn, will help save money and minimize the environmental impact of food production.
Being a senior citizen( 72 ), I think it my religious duty to publicize and make my younger friends/ relatives/ children aware of the following messages:
I will be walking or using the public transport, as I have been/will be doing in the remaining 364 days. Minimise my electricity use and turn appliances off when not in use. Plant and look after trees and other plants.
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) run World Environment Day (WED) in fact is the day to highlight the environmental activities undertaken all year round by UNEP and other organizations and individuals around the world. It's not just a day programme as it is mostly celebrated by commemorative tree planting, organizing debates, paintings, marathon races, road cleaning, etc. Looking to the present environmental scenario, there is a need to consider each day as environment day by adopting an eco-friendly sustainable lifestyle.
of course we must much more do for our environment all over the world. A World Environment day perhaps on 5th of June (is the birthday of my father) could be good and help. But a World Environment day without concrete steps for environmental progress is a pattern without value! Perhaps should be set up a World Environment day, which should be celebrated every year on a other place on the world, and there should be disclosed, what specific activities were carried out in the last year, and what environmental progress has been achieved, and what funds were spent on it.
Hello Abhijit, I don't think we should celebrate ONLY ONE day now. As now it is time to do something everyday. Since last year at my level what I have started is instead of giving flowers give a small plant . In my house on each one's birthday we plant one tree nearby.
But , I came to know last week that one 67 year lady of my city plants 5 trees nearby highway every week since 2 years. She does not do any advertisement , uses her own money and plants it. Very good contribution.
Hello all; its world environment day today. Let's respect our nature. I think all of us respect the doctors who give life to us by giving a bit of oxygen; why not the trees? They give us oxygen to continue the life!!! Plant at least one tree .
