I agree with your view, but I think that absence of real happiness is one of the probable reasons among the others for depression and suicidal thoughts.
I am familiar with many cases, although in the past those cases were rare or did not make the news. My younger sister was one of those cases, but it was not a "perfect" case, if you like, bearing in mind @ Prof. Mehmet Idig-Camuroglu statements.
As a younger person she was a successful academic with achievements in writing and science. Her husband, however, suppressed her activities as being "unnatural for a woman". Therefore, she directed her activities elsewhere and after husband died she became depressed, even suicidal, very uncharacteristic for all the people that knew her well. Today, her depression is almost gone.
Thus, on one hand she had no previous history of depression, but events had changed her. Events in life change many others the same way and world affairs, which are mostly negative, affect many people.
Thanks@ Michael Issigonis for sharing very serious problem faced by your younger sister. It may help and inspire other persons to fight against such problem.
Yes. In a small setting of a few students we have had at least 7 people in 2 years. one actually succeeded. I am not sure if it is the same in all professions but veterinarians and vet students seem to be at higher risk of depression than other professions
Too much material life taking place of the spiritual life. We need a balance. To many freedoms and not enough responsibilities. Again we need a balance. It is called freedom but in reality it is more indifference. People don't advice or don't care about each other anymore. This creates loneliness. We need to add the competitions between people at all stages of social life and excess use of social media and smartphones. The final dangerous result is family disintegration and people have no more reference or guidance. Welcome pills and drugs😢
Certainly true. One can speculate about the causes which (without proof) may include stress, population growth, loss of community relationships, general global unrest, loss of coping mechanisms, poverty, etc.
Yes I agree with you in this view, as we can see the increasing numbers of people (especially young people) who commit suicide because of the state of frustration and psychological stress they suffer as a result of increased pressures of life .
I think that's unfortunately true. In developing countries, such situations are increasing. Unfortunately in our country in BiH there is an increased number of suicides of young people. The question is now, what is the reason?
Like it or not , This is one of sad realities in modern life. Under the present circumstances, some people are feeling the negative influences of the misery and depression which are the common features of modernity. Such conditions are mercilessly gnawing at the fountains of hope and happiness which are necessary to a happy, healthy life.Consequently, they may lead to unhealthy reactions ,which in the long run, create self alienation , feeling of failure ,and suicidal thoughts. These people should know that decisions do not happen automatically and they need to remind themselves that they have to fight with " the slings and arrows of the outrageous fortune" by rising and moving with the strong waves of life. In other words, they should learn how to move with their lives as harmoniously as possible.
These days people are pretending to be happy but in real they are suffering due to various unshackled problems. They do not have fear in taking the extreme steps in their life, that is very unfortunate.
Consequent depressive disorders and suicidal ideation both are increasing in people today. It is only because of the excessive use of online social networking (OSN's) and isolation that has entrapped people, especially the youth.
