I am running a GLM proc SAS analysis and my type I and Type III SS tables arrived at different conclusions entirely for my main effects. How do I know which of the two tables to use in making my final and conclusive decisions as per my main effects on the dependent variable. For example, my type I SS table shows one of my main effects is statistically significant and the type III tables is showing the same effect is not statistically significant. How do I know which one to follow. Im used to the two arriving at the same conclusions and I do mostly use the type III SS tables. At this point I need to know which is which and why the choice. I will appreciate your simplified answers to this. Thank you.
