Hello, I have been exploring different methods and procedures to test on the solubility percentage of chitosan and their derivatives. I am currently employing 1 h of RT stirring and filter out undissolved chitosan via vacuum filtration. Is there a better way to test the solubility?
Depending on the functionalization you can also increase the temperature up to 30-50 °C if the solvent does not have a too strong acid or basic behavior, chitosan itself is very thermostable. Maybe you could also centrifuge instead of filter and see if you have a different result, just to verify your method.

Chitosan is a weak base and is insoluble in water and organic solvent. However, it is soluble in dilute aqueous acidic solution (pH< 6.5). In addition, water-soluble chitosan can be obtained through a chemical modification such as N acetylation with acetic anhydride.
