The laser confocal system of OLS5100 (Olympus) can reach a lateral resolution of 120 nm, that is far beyond the diffraction limitation. Though the numerical aperture of its system is 0.95, the lateral resolution can not be less than 120 nm, unless there are some tricks?
Does anyone know the tricks inside? Do they use some particular techs?

hope you are doing well! For your question, are you sure it is not longitudinal resolution specified by Olympus, which is 8*lambda*(f-number)^2, what is wavelength (lambda) used in the system?
Alexander Goncharov Hello, Alexander. We are good here, hope you are good in Galway. Actually Olympus mentioned that their lateral resolution can reach 120 nm with their confocal system. I have used a 120 nm grating to test their system, and the system can indeed see the 120 nm structures clearly. It seemes that their system breaks the resolution limit with the wavelength of 405 nm. That is why I am curious of the tricks, should be some system secret or algorithms I guess.
BTW, Alexander, I am currently working in Chongqing University and doing super-resolution microscopy study. Hope you can have a travel here someday.
