What is the conventional reporting style of writing a research article abstract for journal publication? Should it be in present tense way of reporting or reported speech?

A descriptive abstract indicates the type of information found in the work. It makes no judgments about the work, nor does it provide results or conclusions of the research. It does incorporate key words found in the text and may include the purpose, methods, and scope of the research
In my opinion, some journals use continuous tense while others make it reported speech. It really depends on journal guidelines.

The best way is to write brief and laconically. Add two-three sentences from each chapter of the main text and add them into the abstract. Then reread it, rewrite if necessary. Make it very brief and concise, very informative.
