When we used CTAB as a capping agent in reducing 4-nitrophenol by Ag NPs, Why CTAB is not good as much as SDS with the same reaction? What is the main reason with it?
What is your CTAB, instead of abbreviating, use the full name. If that's an ammonium bromide derivative, the ionic compound is not preferred over the SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate).
I think in case SDS the surfactant charge on Ag nanoparticles play the crucial binding role which helps in oxidation of 4-nitrophenol by Ag+ itself reduces to Ag nanoparticles as in CTAB NH4+ Cationic part is much larger compared to Na+ in SDS which corresponds to greater charge to surface ratio for sds which favours the 4 nitrophenol reduction by SDS/Ag nanoparticles.
