Dear colleagues

I am organizing tension tests on some existing steel elements (e.g., S275). I will extract the yielding strength and ultimate strength of the existing steel elements. I believe its behavior in compression and tension is similar. In other words, yielding strength and ultimate strength for compression and tension in this material are almost similar. For example, if Fy in tension=275 mpa the Fy in compression= 270 mpa. So, I would like to avoid doing compression tests because the behavior is almost similar.

Do not hesitate to leave your opinion and share your experience, so, I can learn more...

Best regards
