I would like to obtain mitotic figures of chondrocytes, so I am staining cartilage tissue embedded in paraffin with crystal violet. I would be very thankful if anyone kindly shares his protocol or experience.
Also, there are some confusing terminology between crystal violet and cresyl violet in the literature sometimes. Are they totally different or share common characteristics/related structures?

Since you asked this question, I became curious also to see the difference between Cresyl violet and crystal violet, I went in literature and found out they are different stains and with different CAS number

Application
Crystal violet is used as an active component, primary stain, of Gram stain for differentiation of Gram-negative versus Gram-positive bacteria. It has been used to check cell viability.[5] It has also been used for the staining of cells to study cell migration and invasion.[6]
Biochem/physiol Actions
Crystal violet can be used for DNA visualization in agarose gels. The dye is used only in the presence of high concentrations of DNA.[1] Crystal violet is also used for the staining of bacteria in gram staining technique.[2] It is also used for the staining of plant chromosomes.[3] Crystal Violet also helps in colorimetric measurement of cell viability.[4]

I have done cell staining with Crystal violet and the protocol I used worked nice, hope that will work for you too for cartilage sections (enclosure)

I also wonder if there is any difference regarding different concentrations of crystal violet. Will this affect the contrastness?
Probably washing takes care of that, if you add concentrated, that will be washed away,
